Ethics scandals

1. Choose which ethics scandal you wish you read about: Tuskegee or Uninformed Consent
2. Write a MINIMUM of 2 full double-spaced pages or a MAXIMUM of 3 full double-spaced page covering the following:

a. What happened: who were the researchers, who were the subjects, what context was this
research done in? Be brief (one paragraph) in your review of the facts as you interpret them.
b. How did these events happen (in the scope of ethics)? For example, how was consent obtained
or obscured? How were participants recruited or mislead?
c. How could things have been done differently? What is in place currently that would prevent similar events from happening in the future?
d. What are the effects of this scandal? On the participants? On the researchers? On the research
results? On the general public?

3. Using your reading in the textbook, lectures in class, and general knowledge of research
methodology, as a researcher, what would you have done differently?
