1. Find a relevant Code of Ethics for a public or community safety profession – ideally the profession you are planning to work in or already work in. To find a relevant Code of Ethics start by searching in the Illinois Institute of Technology Centre for the Study of Ethics in Professions: Codes of Ethics Online at

If you aren’t able to find anything in the IIT website, try Googling the name of your current or future profession plus “code of ethics”. Here’s a site for a U.S. Firefighters Codes of Ethics in Palm Beach found that way:

And another for the Code of Ethics for the International Association of Emergency Managers:
