Origin of Psychology

Psychology has roots going all the way back to the 7th century B.C. The history of psychology as a distinct science began in the early 19th century when science was established as an accepted institution and began to be considered a major social movement.

There are a number of key figures in the history of psychology—including Wilhelm Wundt, William James, Sigmund Freud, John B. Watson, B.F. Skinner, Ivan Pavlov, Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, Mary Calkins, Mamie Clark, Kenneth Clark, and others. For your essay, choose a historical figure in psychology—anyone except Wilhelm Wundt who is used as the example in the lesson. Frame your essay as if you are a reporter interviewing your chosen historical figure.

Complete the following: 1. Choose any historical figure excluding Wilhelm Wundt. 2. Compile information about the historical figure from external readings, libraries, or archives. Then, format the essay into a hypothetical interview and ask the historical figure the following questions:

Describe your life and work in the field of psychology. What were your major contributions to the field? Which psychological perspective or school of thought do your ideas most closely adhere to? Is this perspective or school of thought still in existence in psychology today? Why, or why not? Submission Requirements: Save your work in 500 words as a Microsoft Word document,

and submit the document to your instructor as an attachment, through the Questa Learning Plan. Include APA formatting for references and in-text citations. Evaluation Criteria: Did you choose a historical figure, excluding Wilhelm Wundt? Did you describe the life, work, and major contributions of the historical figure, as well as the person’s school of thought or perspective? Did you explain why the school of thought or perspective of the figure is, or is not, still in existence in psychology today?
