The Philosophical Context of Business & Professional Ethics
Resources to be used – Module 1 in e-campus, Units 1, 2, & 3; the textbook; and a newspaper or journal article selected by the student.
For Module 1 complete the following five assignments worth 50 points each:
1. From the Three Players Approach to Philosophy, pick one preceded by three stars (***) and present the Business Ethics terms you feel best go with that topic. In doing this, also research at least one term or concept, not presented here and discuss it.
2. From the Three Players Approach to Philosophy, pick one preceded by three stars (***) not used above and present an argument, not already given, which relates the philosophical question to issues or problems that can arise in management. In doing this, also research an example of the issue or problem and cite your source.
3. Present your own belief as to the source of the social contract. Cite and discuss references which support this claim. Give an example of how your interpretation of the social contract might appear in the professional or business world as a basis for trust.
4. Explain The Parable of the Sadhu (p. 23 of your Gini & Marcoux textbook) from the perspective of Social Contract Theory. Reference and Cite a social contract philosopher whose view you feel is relevant. Conclude with why you think this story was put in a business ethics textbook.
5. Find and present a newspaper or journal article which in some way touches upon one of the themes or topics which appears in this module. Give your own views on the topic.
